I have a portable battery operated thermostat which I can set to various temperatures or set the timers etc but wondering how people manage to operate such things from their mobile phone. I don't have any devices like Alexa or any other mobile phone operated appliances on the home but could find it useful to alter temp from mobile phone app. Just don't know where to start.
Any advice would be appreciated.
To the best of my knowledge, it's only special ('smart') central heating thermostats that can be controlled through mobile phone apps. See here https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/smart-thermostats-explained/ and/or here https://www.uswitch.com/gas-electricity/guides/what-are-smart-thermostats/
Thank you so much, Chris. I have boiler service man coming Friday and just wanted to know a bit more about the whole thing before I ask his advice also. Mich appreciated as always x
My oldest son has a Hive device which he finds very useful . He works shifts so can turn on his central heating remotely to warm up his home only when he needs it.
Thank you Rosetta. I need to look into the various things available but was hoping there might be people who have already got to grips with the technology with recommendations so thank you.
I`ve got a Hive thermostat. Nest is another brand. It's fixed to the wall and runs on batteries. There is a wifi gadget (needs a power supply) that it connects to. You can control it manually or through the mobile (I gave the heating a blast from Hong Kong once) It's very useful if you are away a lot and want to heat the home before you come back. It was just a simple job, fitted by the engineer when I had a new boiler a few years ago.
You can operate heating from your mobile phone by downloading an app that allows you to control your home's heating system remotely.
There are a number of apps available that allow you to control your heating system from your mobile phone. Some of these apps even allow you to set schedules so that your heating turns on and off automatically.
If you don't have a smartphone, you can also operate your home's heating system by using a remote control. Many home heating systems come with a remote control that allows you to change the temperature and turn the system on and off.
