Free software is like a free lunch, costs a lot more in the end.
If you are using w10 Microsoft Office is free.
You almost certainly don't need Microsoft Office. LibreOffice is just as good, fully compatible with Microsoft Office files and totally free:

(If you opt for LibreOffice, you might find this link helpful: https://www.howtogeek.com/281166/how-to-change-the-default-file-format-in-libreoffice/ )

If you really want Microsoft Office (although I've absolutely no idea as to why anyone would), eBay is packed with cheap versions, many of which are digital downloads. However tread very carefully if you decide to go down that route, as any heavily discounted offer is highly likely to be 'dodgy' in some way!
In fact it looks as if it is free if you are using it "on line" using other operating systems including Mac and Chromebook.
the arch villain Bill Gates charges an annual fee for use of his useless suite which is of course a human right

I dont think micro office is free with W 10

I use Micro 2013 which is a once off payment. I am not sure if it is available now. It is of course "not supported"
which means that if its use wipes your computer , they say " So what"
but they say that anyway dont they ?
Here is a link from microsoft for a free download. You need to sign in or sign up with microsoft.

Excel is surprisingly good
I am using office on a w10 desktop and a w11 surface pro. Both free if used online.
>>> If you are using w10 Microsoft Office is free.

Eh? Some Windows computers might be sold with Microsoft Office pre-installed but Microsoft Office is most definitely NOT part of any version of Windows itself!

The only version Microsoft Office that's free is the online one, which you use in a web browser (rather than as an actual app on your computer):
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/free-office-online-for-the-web
My desktop is running w10 which I installed way back on day 1. It previously ran XP. I had Office in with the free download and it was not purchased. My surface pro came with w10 installed and had office installed. I upgraded it to w11. Office shows as an app in both systems.

By the way Microsoft call Microsoft 365 "Office".

I got mine from here: Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation

They're valid licences once used by companies and put back for sale. All you need to do, is download a copy of Office 19 from MS and install it using the licence key. I've had my copy for two years now, and it works with no issue.

As others have said, LibreOffice works just as well, but I needed Outlook and Access for my business.

Another point to consider is that Office is increasingly the product being used by businesses and local authorities. Lots of people are familiar with it because it is what they work with on a daily basis. They therefore are keen to have the app on their home pc. "She who must be obeyed" is a wizard with it because she uses it all day long in meetings as she minutes them remotely from home. There is always a treason why a poster is asking for a certain link. It may be the case here. An alternative was not requested.
I have just opened "Office" to see what the suite actually contains. Besides Word, Excel and Powerpoint. I found a message and a menu for an imminent future upgrade that includes the message shown below. I think that I will now leave this until the morning and have an in depth look. It now has Workbook(Excel), Quiz and Forms available. There is an upload available to me that I need to look into first. Haha good question "Monty".

Over the last couple years, Microsoft 365 has evolved into our flagship productivity suite, so we are creating an experience to help you get the most out of Microsoft 365. In the coming months, Office.com, the Office mobile app, and the Office app for Windows will become the Microsoft 365 app, with a new icon, a new look, and even more features.
Sorry Blubster I missed your post and posted without acknowledging what you said. We are also delighted with it. I can correspond with most "official" organisations because it is deemed to be a trusted platform. Most of them use it themselves.
This simple question from montypython certainly has the potential to become very complicated and indeed "contentious". Haha.
The link below, for anyone interested, has a list of "frequently asked questions" and is part of the upgrade/upload message and explanation that I have found in Office.
