i have just moved from birmingham to swansea where my fiancee lives. i had a bt phone line back home, and was on aol broadband.

my fiancee uses both ntl phone and broadband.

i have brought my notebook computer with me, can i still access aol through her ntl phone line or will i need to pay for an additional bt line?

how can i go about still using aol?

what do you access with aol?

if it''s just the web, you should be able to simply plug her broadband connection into your computer, and it work.

i was hoping it would be that simple, but i wont know until i try it. my modem is a bt voyger aol supply and hers is a ntl modem.

also, i have a belkin wireless router which was an absolute nitemare to set up so that should be throw a few spanners in the works.

your router should be easy to setup. basically uou just need the username and password of her ISP, together with the VPI and VCI numbers (i think its 0 and 38, but not with my router right now to check). it's pretty much the same on all ISPs as far as i can tell. and you want to choose PPPoA probably. but her ISP will tell you all this somewhere on their website, i would assume.

as for the modems. if its broadband, they're technically not broadband, and they both do the same job anyway. if they both connect with RJ-45 cables (like thicker phone lines), they should be fine. and i think the ones that connect with USB (terrible things), should be ok too. i see no reason why not, anyway.
