If it's an Apple, cmd/shift/4 then drag the cursor across the amount you want to print. Print the resulting file from desktop.
Right click anywhere on your screen. A list of options appears. One of those options is Print. Left click on Print and take it from there.
In Windows, simply pressing Ctrl and P together works in almost any program to commence the print sequence.

I've tried all your suggestions but still no print out.I haven't used the printer for a few weeks perhaps that's the reason.Thanks.
What is it that you're trying to print? Is it, say, a copy of the web page that you're viewing now or perhaps a Word document? Or are you trying to print an image of your desktop?

If it's the output from a word processing program (such as Microsoft Word or LibreOffice Writer), or something similar (such as a spreadsheet), what happens when you press Ctrl and P together (or go to File > Print, or whatever you usually do)? Do you see the normal printer dialogue? If so, what, if anything, happens when you then click on 'Print'? (If it's nothing at all, check that the printer shown as being selected when you see the printer dialogue box is actually the one that you're using).
As an aside to this but related, you can hit the Print Screen button top right on the keyboard. this copies the visible screen. Then open an imaging app and hit paste.
You can then save and print from a .jpg
