Quick Way To Chop Out Chunks Of Footage To Save Just Small Bits

I need to isolate various pieces of footage from various longer pieces of footage.

Can anyone advise what is the best way to either remove just the bits i need, and/or remove the bits i dont.
ideally both those options

Ideally i'd like to be able to move a slider bar along the footage & click delete or save or something simple like that

free if possible, simple & quick is best

My son downloaded Windows movie maker free years back onto computer when he had an android phone to edit film/video clips but now has an iPhone and uses imovie to edit video footage. Hope this helps.

thanks but that doesnt allow for footage as long as these clips are :(
