I work as a secretary (mainly typing), and I work with three others who do the same work. However, one of them (I’ll call Yvette*) doesn’t pull her weight in her role and now my boss is asking me to keep a daily tally on how much work Yvette* produces (Yvette* has no idea). Each day, my boss comes in asking me to give her the figures of how many letters are outstanding Yvette* needs to do. I’ve been doing this daily now for 4 days, but it doesn’t seem right. It’s like I’m ratting on Yvette*. Surely my boss is getting me to do her dirty work? How to I broach the subject with my boss that it just doesn’t seem right?
I thought your boss was male? Or have you changed bosses again?
Either way it is not your job to report on a colleague - tell you boss that is their role, but give them a solution - like in and out trays so they can see how much work is outstanding at the end of each day.
Ask your boss for a quiet word and explain that you're not comfortable with her proposal. You know how your office works. Do you have a possible solution?
DD, they still exist by other names. Secretaries, for example - but they're not.
