That's a bit drastic and over-paranoid. I would recommend two things: 1) make sure the site you shop at uses security encoding to protect your personal details. There'll be a statement to this effect somewhere on the site (try the 'Help' section, and when you are in the secure area of the site (basically once you've logged in or entered any personal details), a padlock will appear in the information bar at the bottom of your browser window (if you use IE). Basically all the major sites are secure. 2) Get a credit card that protects you against misuse (preferably all misuse, not just online). Most will do this, nowadays.
