e-shopping?

How can i shop online (e-shopping) , using my credit card and be sure that my credit card code wont be stolen? I mean if i shop online in a major clothing-company and after the transaction , cancel my credit card so that i can be sure that noone can use ny code..?

That's a bit drastic and over-paranoid. I would recommend two things: 1) make sure the site you shop at uses security encoding to protect your personal details. There'll be a statement to this effect somewhere on the site (try the 'Help' section, and when you are in the secure area of the site (basically once you've logged in or entered any personal details), a padlock will appear in the information bar at the bottom of your browser window (if you use IE). Basically all the major sites are secure. 2) Get a credit card that protects you against misuse (preferably all misuse, not just online). Most will do this, nowadays.

ps if anyone - especially Spellmaster, picks up on my overuse of the word 'basically' I will send them a nasty computer virus which causes impotence and premature baldness.

Under the Consumer Credit Act you're not liable for any authorised transactions on your card: what does this mean? If your card is used fraudulently, it's the issuer's problem, not yours. Added to the encryption used online, I'd worry more about accidentally killing myself by tripping over dust.

I'm not sure if this will make you feel better, but remember that every time you use your credit card in a manual transaction, any one of the people through whose hands your card and/or the receipt passes could misuse your details. I suspect that fraud arising from internet transactions happens far less than fraud arising from manual and telephone transactions.

Cahoot have a great idea. With a Cahoot "webcard", you generate a new credit card nymber for each & every transaction - each number is valid only for a maximum sum set by you, and for a very short time period. (And I don't work for Cahoot!)
