Obtaining P A C From E E Whilst Abroad ?
4 Answers
EE are ramping up the charge for our UK mobiles - to a point where my previous inertia has been poked hard enough to get me to do something.
I've ordered a couple of giffgaff SIMs (they will deliver to Ireland) and they assure me that I can port our existing UK numbers into giffgaff even whilst abroad - ready for use on any future visit to the UK.
We do need to retain the numbers as they are also used for occasional incoming calls from UK friends and businesses.
The only potential fly in the ointment is whether we can get PACs from EE whilst roaming in Ireland - a fairly determined bit of googling has produced conflicting replies - some say 'no problem' others say 'no chance'.
Before I contact EE, has anyone here got a PAC from EE whilst roaming?
Cheers

1. You can't get a PAC via text from EE whilst abroad - but you can get one from the MY EE service on a laptop.
2. giffgaff are very efficient - new SIM sent to my Irish address at no charge and within three working days.
3. New SIM activated whilst roaming in Ireland - no problem at all.
4. No need to pay giffgaff for a monthly 'goodybag' of calls/text/data - you can just lob a tenner of credit onto the phone to activate it and it will last 'indefinitely' as long as you make a chargeable call/text once every six months - so I'm good for incoming calls and can get data via my home wifi. I'll turn some of the credit into a goodybag when/if I next come to the UK.
4. PAC worked and number ported within 24hrs.
