WhatsApp is encrypted end-to-end so you can’t ‘hack’ into it.

WhatsApp is not social media, it's exactly the same as calling or texting on your phone except you use the Internet rather than your phone network so in theory is free if you use your home WiFi. My spouse wouldn't need to hack into my WhatsApp to see my messages but he would need the pin to open my phone.

10C, Whatsapp is very useful if you phone abroad often or want to talk (not text or type) to a specific group, such as your immediate family.

What's not to like about unlimited free telephone calls to anyone in the world who has Whatsapp?

The easiest way is for you, or a friend of yours, to get access to your spouse's phone, opened. Or the opened phone of the person at the receiving end.

whatsapp is NOT social media, it's essentially texting + calling but using the net. I use it all the time to communicate free with my son in South Korea.

I used Skype for years, even had a Skype phone with number so everyone in the house could use it - forerunner to Whatsapp

This wasn't social media, it was a question & answer site. But with the introduction of Chatterbank it seems to have degraded into having a more social type function. Personally I still consider it primarily a Q&A rather than a social site.
