New Pc Or Just A Monitor?
9 Answers
My daughter's PC has died. She is thinking of buying a big monitor and hooking up her tablet and laptop instead of buying a new computer.
She doesn't play demanding games nor is she into video editing but she does like a big screen for a lot of things. Her current laptop does everything she needs.
This means she could buy a high end monitor.
I can think of no good reason for her to buy another PC - can you think of any disadvantages to the monitor/laptop hookup?

Most experts estimate a laptop's lifespan to be three to five years. It may survive longer than that, but its utility will be limited as the components become less capable of running advanced applications.
Mine are two years. Taxman doesnt seem to mind if I depreciate over two years
get the whole system now- as she will be renewing it next year or so anyway

Make sure that the monitor connectivity is compatible with the laptop and tablet – which will probably be HDMI. You might like to consider a monitor with built in sound, which might be an improvement on the laptop/tablet.
There’s no point in buying a monitor with a better resolution/refresh rate than the laptop/tablet can supply.
