Wiping Phone Before Selling

Is it enough to take a smartphone I intend to sell back to factory settings or should something else be done? Thanks for your help

While no expert, I'd have thought changing the settings wouldn't delete your personal data. Just the settings. It is something not uncommonly done to try to correct issues, which would be a pain if it deleted data at the same time.

OG, restoring a phone to factory settings does wipe all the data. The phone is exactly the way it was out of the box, you have to download all the updates and set it up as if it were new

Aren't experts still able to get information on a phone even when it's been ' wiped ' clean ?

I expect they could, Bazile, but it unless you are a prominent or extremely wealthy person it is extremely unlikely to happen

I was thinking more of evidence gathering for prosecution ,in court cases

That is extremely sophisticated and very expensive software they use for that, but it can be done.
I wonder what they could retrieve if any data was saved to the cloud and deleted from the phone as soon as it was created. Over time that deleted date would be overwritten perhaps many, many times. What data could be retrieved from the phone, not the cloud, in that instance?
Just curiosity, not relevant to the OP. Unless thelewisgang is of interest to the police, of course.
