I'm told that PVRs are much easier to operate than DVDs. Can anyone confirm this and if so which make and model would you recommend bearing in mind that I have an IDTV (Integrated Digital Television) and do not have Sky?

Be sure to buy a machine that contains a *digital* (Freeview) receiver. You then get a full 14 day on-screen program guide. To make a recording, just scroll to the program you want and select "record". A surprising number of machines in the shops only have analog receivers. This means no program guide, no extra channels and obsolescent technology.

Re the IDTV, I wouldn't bother. Consider the TV purely as an output device and use the receiver in your settop box to get optimum functionality.

Many thanks tenbob. None of the stores I have visited has suggested buying one that contains a digital receiver. Your advice is very welcome.
