Free spyware remover - can anyone recommend a good one?

In my local computer shop they said that limewire might have let spyware into my computer which is why it is running slowly - can anyone recommend a good free remover that won't hijack my computer?

Adaware from www.lavasoft.nu ... i've been using it for a while and had no problems with it...

...c'mon....why does everything HAVE to be free?....if you don't want to get hijacked then get the best, whether it is free or not should not be an issue..................Pay up to �1000 for a PC then "protect" it with some freeware AV or firewall? IMHO this just doesn't make sense....................commoner.

I must agree with rsd2525, had it for a few months myself and it seems to do the job. It is free, but you can make a donation if you wish.

Commoner -- i am not saying everything should be free but having used it for at least 3-4 years now and never get troubles i thought it would be worth recommending

I will be using lavasoft spyware soon, i am changing from Norton anti virus and firewall to AVG+FIREWALL., which by the way, if anyone is interested, and didn't know, is the only software with two years of free updates, all others only have one

However i downloaded the Yahoo Companion Toolbar, and this has a pop up blocker and spyware on it, and both have been brilliant, chances are i might not need lavasoft, but AVG reccomended it to me, so it must be a good one..

I agree with commoner, it is better to pay for something good you can trust, in the end you get what you pay for, and sad though this may seem, anything free is not as good as something you've paid for.

Microsoft's Antispyware is good too. How much longer it'll be free we can only guess. I use that, Spybot S+D, Lavasoft's Adaware, SpywareBlaster and a firewall and antivirus.

All free - never had a problem.
Maybe this also has to do with the fact that I don't use Internet Explorer, don't visit dodgy sites that may give me spyware problems and have a healthy distrust of any "useful toolbars" that programs or websites try to install for my benefit.

...agreed rsd there is some good stuff which is free..I use Norton AND adaware AND Spybot...<G>...can't get too much protection these days!............just seems that when people ask for recommendations, not only for this type of stuff but for software in general, it has to be freeware.....or "cracked " payware..........wonder how many have Photoshop which as not been "bought and paid for" for example?
