Amber light on my disk drive

Just below my disk drive on my packard bell computer there is an amber light showing continually, even with the drawer open, can anybody tell me why? it seems to be affecting my computer. Thanks in advance.

Worst case, a virus or somesuch has affected your machine and is creating a lot of disc activity. Or windows is indexing the files on the computer.
