Now when I select one of my saved photographs to 'set as desktop background', it appears huge, so only about half of it fills the screen.  I haven't changed any settings (that I know of) - any ideas please how I can get them to appear 'normal'?

This is for Windows 11 but it should be roughly similar in other versions of Windows:Right-click on your desktop.Select 'Personalise'.Click 'Background'.Click 'Choose a fit for your desktop image'.Choose either 'Stretch' or 'Fill'. My guess is that there must be a 'fit to screen' setting somewhere. Check the settings for one.

This is for Windows 11 but it should be roughly similar in other versions of Windows:

Right-click on your desktop.

Select 'Personalise'.

Click 'Background'.

Click 'Choose a fit for your desktop image'.

Choose either 'Stretch' or 'Fill'. ('Stretch' makes the image fill your screen but, if your picture is a different shape to your screen, will distort it.  'Fill' avoids distortion but can result in a border at the sides or the edges being cut off.  If your image is the same shape as your screen though, either option will work perfectly).
