Hi, please forgive me, this is going to be a long one...

I have a D-Link wireless router (DI624+) combined with appauling 1m Ntl broadband. I have three wireless clients on this router and one wired. The issue i have is that two wireless clients both lost connection at the same time. Whilst at the since then, the wired and remaining wireless client have no problem.

The two machines affected are using D-link PCI cards and are also linked via a seperate wired network. The odd thing is, thatthey have signal strength and quality of 75-80% but they only get out to the internet for maybe 5% of the time. They connect (i have a network activity monitor program to verify) for about 1-2 minutes then i loose internet connection for anywhere between 5-45 minutes. While the machines are getting no connection, the signal is still there and as far as i can tell, they seem to talk to the router okay. At the same time, the other two machines have connection the whole time.

Neither of the problem machines had their settings or hardware changed, but both dropped out at the same time, they loose connection at the same time as each other. Neither of them have any other connection to the internet or any kind of connection sharing enabled. We had a spare (D-Link) wireless card which i swapped out with one of the dodgy machines and nothings changed. I ran a cable from a spare router port to different network card on one of the PC's and it does the same thing. We've tried disabling firewalls, network cards, updating drivers, rebooting the router and the ntl (one of the new Samsung set-top boxes) box.

I also tried with my Wireless laptop which doesnt use any D-Link hardware and the same thing happens.

continued...

It has been suggested that there is a virus or some such circulating on the wired network, but i have some AV and spyware software running on all machines. (Not that i think the software is going to catch everything).

There arent any other wireless networks within range and we've checked the router logs and nobody else is connecting to it.

Any help would be very gratefully appreciated as i cant do very much on the internet unless i'm at work!

I didn't read everything you put cause i can't be bothered but i have ntl and only certain wireless routers and cards e.c.t. will work.

Your best bet is to go to a computer store and tell them you have ntl and the make sure you get the right one. I did it and it turned out that the one i needed was the cheapest one there.:- )

Thanks for that James.

It could well be that the router isn't the best one for ntl, although that wouldn't explain why it suddenly dropped out, or why the other machines still connect regardless.

I'm not a great supporter of wireless networks oddly enough, and dont really know much about them. I normally do my best to avoid them. Anybody got any suggestions or advice maybe regarding the internals?
