Does anyone know of a simple basic freeware video editor that can change the brightness of my avi videos please? Or even Mpegs, as I could convert my Avi's and re-convert them afterwards. Currently I have to use an avi2jpeg then brighten each frame individually then use a jpg2avi to convert back. A batch-brightener would help. Surely this could all be done with just a few lines of code?

you want to avoid converting MPEGs to AVIs and vice versa: it's called recompression and it causes all sorts of problems when used with video that's already compressed. However, try VirtualDub, which seems to do most things with video ins and outs.
