Toenail Softener

Does it work?  Recommendations will be much appreciated.

I am defeated by a creature with hooves for nails that squeals like a stuck pig when I try to cut his nails.

They are so long, if they were ingrowing he wouldn't be able to get his hat on.

Are your nail clippers strong enough? I bought these...First for an elderly friend, then for myself as they really work. Very sharp...and very clean cut.

Feet had been soaked, I have clippers like that.  They have got very thick seemingly quickly

Is there a chiropodist that does home visits in your area barry?

I would be inclined to let them do it if so, you may have to pay privately though

Yes I bought Gehwol flud off amazon for those hard bits in the corners and it works brlliantly. I really recommend.There are several  variations under the brand name, including specific nail softenerbut I've not tried that. Mine is the fluid for ingrown nails and it softens it really well in a couple of minutes.

My Podiatrist never uses scissors or clippers on his clients feet. He files them using a machine, very gently. 

Could you use a couple of emery boards Barry?

If it's for one of your 'olds' then personally I'd get a choropodist in to make a home visit, I wouldn't mess about trying to do it yourself.

I remember being in hospital many moons ago and in the bed on the opposite side of the ward was a very old lady lying motionless on her back.  Her feet were sticking out of the covers at the bottom of the bed and she had the longest curliest toe nails I have ever seen in my life.  Poor lady, they must have been at least 3" long and not grown straight but curled round a few times.  She couldn't possibly have worn any shoes.  I hope to goodness, if she came out of hospital, someone cut her toe nails beforehand.  I've no idea whether that is something a nurse would do.

I had mine taken off, very little pain, and the new ones grew normally.

Barry, I have a similar creature. Best to soak feet for a while before clipping. To avoid an ingrowing toenail use a 'thing' to gently prise the nail from the toe gradually day by day. I'm trying to think what the 'thing' is called.
