Do I back Farage or Boris/DM ?Β I think the question isn't that simple.Β In order to give Farage's stance credibility one has to define "expansion" as actively preventing other nations to make a choice on which international groups they can join; which isn't a reasonable demand, and thus not a reasonable definition. In order to allow others the right of...

Basically I think it is daft to intepret agreeing to no expansion as meaning independent sovereign nations can't apply and be accepted by multinational groups. No single nation can expect to have that sort of control over others.

The only sensible interpretation is that NATO and others would not deliberately push for new members in order to expand. Consequently Putin's feeble excuse holds no validity and Farage's view is flawed. It doesn't give him the image of a great clairvoyant but an image of an apologist for Russian aggression.

He may draw a distiction between his erroneous view of causes and actual support for Putin, but it isn't going to be seen that way by the masses.

It was a ridiculous thing to highlight prior to hoping to win seats at an incoming election. He may have ruined getting non-woke citizen representation into Westminster by this gaff.

(Does the DM come into this at all ?)

Our Nige seems to have only just stopped short of saluting Putin's indefatigability.

Farage tells the truth, Boris as is evident, lies.

Farage may be right in that whatever has happened in the West has rattled Putin into showing how big and powerful he and his country are.

Putin is not a rational person.  The West is just getting on with things as normal.  Putin is in the wrong.

I , as you can tell, have no basic understanding of politics.

I base my view on logic and what is right and what is wrong.

Larry for PM!🐈

If they want to settle this by using cut-throat razors I know where they could get them.

putin want ukraine's resources and the old soviet union back simple as that, napoleon syndrome 5ft 7inches perhaps.

So is Farage right?

Do people back his stance against the Mail and Johnson?

The politicos are of an educational level to understand the difference between 'explanation  of' and 'justification of'.  They are choosing not to do so, for political reasons.

Makes me wonder if this was the reason behind losing Eng. Lang. and Eng. Lit.  as separate subjects years ago.

Farage simply explained the reasons why Putin acted as he did.  Farage also said that he found the invasion of Ukraine repugnant etc. etc.(hope I got the word right, but he wasn't in favout of it).

If you wish to destroy a society, destroy its language - 'newspeak', remember.

What is the instrument  that Boris is holding between his knees on the link..?😎

Silly question probably deserves a silly answer but  I won't bother. It's a microphone.

"Farage simply explained the reasons why Putin acted as he did. "

that isn't quite true. he blamed the EU and NATO for "provoking" him which is a bit more than just explanation.

I agree with jourdain entirely.  The same is happening here as we've seen happen to others who don't find favour with the establishment - including Boris. The language is being deliberately mangled.

-- answer removed --

It makes sense that Putin would see the eastwards expansion of NATO & the EU as a threat.

We may have no evil intent towards Russia but Putin might think that more liberal thinking will infiltrate into Russia & cause unrest against his tyrannical regime.

He would feel compelled to react to that & his MO is brute force.

Exactly Dave.

Johnson Broke Britain and Farage will do the same if he ever gets any power . Think these pair would be better suited to American politics along side Trump.😎

So the general feeling "on the Right" is that Johnson and the Mail are in the wrong on this one.

Interesting.
