I have a design in my head for outside in my backyard - it will include a downstairs toilet which I need, sink and small shower.

Is there any where i could see the design on the website - thanks

I doubt it. Whatever you decided it would be made of, brick, wood or some some of plastic it will look like a shed, unless you have an extension to your house.

It will need good insulation to stop the pipes freezing, a heater to stop you freezing, electricity, water, drainage and ventilation. It will probably be very expensive.

It can be any design you want, here are some fancy pants garden rooms that could have a shower room

you might want to check what your council will allow in the way of outbuildings

Such a building would fall under 'permitted development' so shouldn't be a problem.

No according to my builder who is taking his time God knows when it will be done  but I won't need planning permission.

thanks Barry - those links were good

barry I know you aren't a builder but you do know a lot - like how much would that all cost.

builder has told me that I am near where the bo-bos go and I am just looking a wee blow heater -

Question Author

oh - the size will be 10 feet by maybe 8 or 10 feet.  Quite small indeed but that's all I want just a toilet downstairs before I croak it.   And no dont want to put a toilet understairs - have seen plenty of them and don't like them at all.

I have no idea of building costs at all, I don't know what bo-bos are, nor where they go.  I don't know if you are buying a pre-made unit to be fitted out to your specs of if you are having one built with brick.

I don't know if you can have 'a wee blow heater' in a wet room due to safety implications.

Your builder will know the cost.

If your looking for a brick built structure pricing it same as building an extension of (say) 10 sq metres it might cost as much as £15,000+. Laying on power, water, drainage might up the cost somewhat.

Power/water/drainage and bathrooms as well as any building will require building regs.

Depending on what you kit is out with Davebros estimate could be quite conservative.  Building materials have risen massively, £10 a bag of Multi these days, just bought a load yesterday and that was best price we could find down here.

I had a small "glory hole" by the back door turned into a shower room about 4 years ago.

Shower/toilet/small basin and the washing machine is there, too. Small blow heater on wall.

Cost £12,000 plus and water elec etc were already there.

"glory hole"?

You sure you meant to write that?

I don't know what it now means in this day and age but it is a small room where stuff gets put which has no other home and don't want to throw away.

Something like this might work:

https://cabindepot.co.uk/products/new-1-toilet-1-shower-block-8x5-ft-portable-containex-unit-blue-no-855

Easily removed if a subsequent occupier didn't need it.

Young, the house I grew up in had a glory hole accessible from outside. It was part of the house, we kept junk in it.

glory hole

in British English

NOUN

1. informal

a room, cupboard, or other storage space that contains an untidy and miscellaneous collection of objects

//I don't know what it now means in this day and age//

Well, it is where a male pokes his bits through a hole for a lady, or man, to "do things with".

So be careful using that in polite company now !!

Barry, using a Dictionary doesnt always give you all the meanings.

Unless you consult Rogers Profanisorous as well maybe?

Polite company wouldn't know.

If it was polite company I doubt they would know your definition.

yes - those wee photos are a great example - it gives me a good idea and I do thank yous all for going to the trouble of looking for me as I wouldn't have a baldy where to start.

I am actually thinking of a shed'y' effect and would be connected to the back of the house with a small hall (to avoid bad weather) between my back of the house and the shed.  I have checked the price of the shed some time ago and it alone was £1,100.  My builder/neighbour has told me it can be done and Barry boo boos meant that emptying of the bladder and bowel is near to where a drainage system is in the backyard which should mean that could be taken care of - he is a good builder but very laid back - God knows when he will start as he seems to have plenty of work on and then we have twelfth July fortnight to keep us back again.     thanks all again
