Are there no English people that speak English properly any more?

Well, they let Naga Munchetty present Breakfast TV and she talks from the back her throat and down her nose. Can barely understand her some times.

But I wonder the same thing sometimes. I think (only a guess) that they see it as some form of equality. Can't exclude anyone just because they have a speech problem, that sort of thing, which is why they allow people with regional accents to present proigrammes as well.

You need to let this obsession go.  You've had a thread complaining about Catherine Byaruhanga's diction, another about the pronunciation of 'nuclear' on the news.

You shouldn't let little things get to you.  I like our regional accents and all I ask of newreaders is that I can understand them.

The same could be said about written English.

It is more important that written English is precise because there is no inflection or facial expressions to convey the message.  Lack of punctuation can distort the meaning, the use of non-standard words can confuse the reader.
