I have no intention to vote ever.  Must I register on the Electoral Roll??  I don't need credit either.

It is a legal requirement to be on the register even if you never vote, and you could be fined.

Yes best to register, but tick the box for no publicity.

Thanks!

When I was much younger I got away with it for years.  They used to send naive young guys to check and they went away satisfied with the flimsiest of excuses.  I caved in after about 5 years.

barry is correct, you must register.  Personally I think that by not intending to vote - you spurn centuries of struggle by ordinary people who had to fight, suffer and even die for that right. A disgraceful decision, I feel.

I agree with you Jourdain. The suffragettes suffered dreadfully so that women can vote.

But  only so that they can. Not that they must.

The suffragettes fought for the right to vote, not compulsory voting.

Spoil your ballot paper, at least that is a protest vote, even if no-one gives a hoot.

In my defence against the critics, my abstention from the Roll was when the Roll was completely public, and all sorts of junk mail resulted, not to mention liability for Jury Duty (which I've had to do twice since re-instatement, thankfully I'm now too old).

But I do appreciate the sacrifices and struggles made in earlier time to get me the privilege of voting (not that my many many votes over the last 62 years has ever made any difference 🤣).

"Spoil your ballot paper,...."

Why should anybody do that? If they don't want to vote, they don't want to vote. That should be respected.

No one needed to suffer. It was a change 'whose' time had come. Plenty was been done without publicity and stunts.

Compulsory voting is an abuse of a citizens freedom of choice. No one should be forced to support a representative they don't approve of.

Well I think your answer is disgraceful jourdain, but here we are :)

Along with the right to vote comes the right not to vote if that's what you wish.
