There is a work colleague - who is prat - but I cant help wanting to get to the bottom of an outrageous claim he has made.

He reckons that he can download PSP games that are copies. Then put the file onto a memory card (1GB) followed by two other games in the same manner..each file around 300MB in size

Then play them from the memory card without distortion...just like the real deal !

Surely this is rubbish...surely the quality would be severley effected - if work at all. 300MB for one game ! I dont know what size info each UMB disc holds but surely you cant put copies onto memory cards and expect it to work....he said he has not tried it yet but seems certain it will work.

Dont know the specifics but there was a bug in the very first PSP's that allowed copies to be made of games this but it was quickly sorted out. As to your colleagues claim - dont know sorry! Sounds dubious though doesnt it?
Does 300MB seem too large or too small?
way too small. i doubt whether the game would be playable at this size.
ps UMD not UMB

you can indeed download psp games and play in the manner he suggested.i know somebody who does this(its not me honest !).i believe its a loophole in the early firmware.i think its prior to version 2.0.

most of the file sizes i have seen on bit torrent are of approx 300Mb in size so can only assume that this is correct also.

So he could be right...but new firmware would put a stop to that?

So new games would not work on his machine and downloaded copies on memory sticks would not work either?

It is bound to be beaten at some point though isn't it?

But then likewise Sony will just add something else.....and as the changes are so quick it hardly seems worth the effort to do all that
and i think the new games are programmed specifically for 2.0 or later to try and remove this problem.

The story is indeed true, you can play games from the memory card and the latest version of frameware did not solve the problem, because you can get downgrade program to downgrade your psp frameware back to its original software, however, I must also add that it is illegal to do so.

A UMD can hold 1.8GB of stuffs.
