Coincidence, it was only today that I learnt that Balmer is allegedly the correct way to pronounce US City Baltimore !

^^^ It depends upon whether you're local or not, Canary42!

I had enough of local pronunciations when I lived in Norfolk (Stiffkey=Stooky, Happisburgh = Haisboro, Hunstanton = Hunston, Costessey = Cossy, Wymondham = Windum, etc 🤣). But just to be more awkward they pronunced  Magdalen (St) as spelt, and not the college version Maudlin.
