My wife and I when watching these dramas are always saying stuff like " why didn't she just phone the police or why did he do that or why didn't he just tell them or leave a tale half told"? Things to that effect. Why cant the writers make the characters act in a more normal way? If you know what I mean!

Me and er indoors have the same chat all the time! When they go into a dark room they never put the light on!

In cop shows when they see the bloke they'd like to talk to they always wait until the are 30yds away and shout at him so h has a head start for a foot chase!

I guess it must be for dramatic effect.

Its make believe. There is only a short time to tell the "story" some things have to go.

Just use your imagination!

in star trek they always say "captain, you needto see this" over the comm badge rather than " there's a big alien chewing the spaceship and  i need you to send loads of people with phasers"

They keep it simple aboard Red Dwarf... albeit on Starbug

Cat: Is that what I think it is?
Lister: What d'you think it is?
Cat: An orange whirly thing in space!

if they made it like real life it would be BORING !!!!!!!!!

Most programmes are already boring, don't make them worse by being realistic.

Yes, they put the big light on when entering a room. Or sit in front of a big window at night with the curtains drawn back. Or when someone knocks on the door and no one is there, they then walk around looking leaving the door wide open behind them.

...and repeat themselves for effect...

And sometimes they repeat them self ^ Dave

Drivers are terrific!  They turn the wheel constantly as though on a winding path - and they can take their eyes of the road for ages to chat to their passenger - with never so much as a hint of a swerve.

Eavesdropping and the lack of perepheral vision is my biggest bugbear - particularly in soaps (one of the reasons i no longer watch them).

Character A tells character B a closely guarded secret which will be devestating should character C ever find out. Despite being just a few yards away and well within earshot, though presumably not within perepheral vision of either A & B, character D hears every word.

And, as D has it in for A, B or C, you just know what D will do with the news.

Confused? You will be when you watch soaps.

Even the police documentaries...  I solve the case before they do ....

A full episode of Eastenders.... Intro music.... Scene, Queen Vic... Character A.."We need to talk!"... Character B... "I don't wanna talk 'bout it!"..... Drum roll...End

TV programmes are made by bright young things, you know, like the ones you overhear in the pub or supermarket talking nonsense to each other.

They are disconnected from the real world and it's surprising more of them don't end up dead through having no real clue about how stuff works.

EastEnders characters are always short of money, but spent half their life in the Queen Vic, and then how the pub made a profit is also a mystery, 'its on the house' is a recurring theme, until it went up in flames. And the outside scenes have the same dog barking in the background with a siren  blaring out. And where does all the music outside in the square come from.. rant over

I know exactly what you say. TV dramas appear to be written by a clique of writing that is not of the real world. When do we ever see anyone on TV asking where the toilet is, or what time it is, or where the local pub is?.

William; Ever thought of being a scriptwriter?

Coming home from work, having supper, then stretching out on the sofa in front of the TV.

Not much there for a dramaturge to get their teeth into.

And why are there no yellow lines in Albert Square .
