or someone getting rid of a nuisance tree without doing it legally.

Why a nuisance tree?   It's not in anyone's way,  It's in a wood.  Just wanton vandalism.  Sick.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cewgypewepno

The bbc report includes a photo which shows 2 vehicles and a cherrypicker working on the tree and looks to me like it was part of this incident...so shouldn't be hard to trace the clear reg numbers if it was this incident

This is is a disregard for the heritage of an old tree. Lets hope prosecutions come out of this.

M&B aren't refusing to name the contractors who told them the tree was dead and cut it down.

they said it was dead

but the tree surgeoons should have known

and I womdered why one of the young workers in the otel didn say - Hold on....

all occirred last month

Some tree surgeons are very unscrupulous and condemn a tree as diseased and dangerous to make more money for themselves in taking it down. It seems likely that is what happened in this case, and they will hopefully get their come-uppance ...

Looking at the sawn off chunks it doesn't look diseased or rotten. I think they were cowboys out to make a quick buck. Hope they get a mega fine instead.

If it was deemed important it already should have had a protection order on it. As it didn't there may not even be proceedings.

maybe it depends who owns the land it is on?
