yes! the european iPods are volume-restricted (to comply with a european law; all personal audio devices have this). luckily, this piece of software will remove it for you:

just be careful not to kill your ears!

Thanks fo3nix, that will keep a lot of people happy - will tell my friends with iPods.

Do you know of similar programs for any other players?

For iRiver players, you can upgrade the firmware with the Korean version, which isn't volume limited (the language is still in English). See http://www.misticriver.net/forumdisplay.php?f=121 for info.

Not that it matters much, except to pedants like myself, it's actually a French law that means the volume of all European audio players are limited. Perhaps their darlings are more sensitive than the rest of the world?
Ralph: I didn't know that, but it makes sense. Damned french.

wideboy: no, only know of that one. But I only own an iPod, so thats all I've looked into. I suspect that there are similar programs available for most other devices.

Thanks, Ralph - my son has an iRiver, I'll let him know. Thanks fo3nix - will keep looking.
