Is there any easily available free software to convert an MS works spreadsheet to an Excel one? They are on different computers and would need to be transferred on floppy.

(If it's not easily available and free, I might just as well reenter the data - i't's not enormous)

If you use the Save As command and choose CSV, the database will be saved as a series of entries consisting of text separated by commas (hence CSV, comma separated values). Transfer the saved file onto a floppy. You then open Excel, go to Data Tool, and choose Import Data. Youll have to do a bit of tidying up once it's imported, but it can be done.
Youll find an explanation of the procedure here

I thought you could open Works files in Excel anyway.

In Excel, go to File, Open and change the 'Files of type' to Microsoft Works.

Not in the version I've got, OBonio
I'm with Obonio - have you tried going all the way down the list of file-types to open ?

When saving in Microsoft works you have the option to save as as Excel Workbook/sheet file.

Dsg, spaced - oops yes, hadn't scrolled down far enough. The versions offered are different but it's worth a try.

Problem now is to get it from a standalone PC (no internet) that only has a floppy drive to one that only has a CD drive (but does have internet).... At least that's easy - find a friend with the right hardware and e-mail it.

Do neither of the PCs have the facility to use USB flash drives or are they too old/older OS?

Windows 95 on a 486 chip I think - well before USB?Even its CD drive is read only. The other one has USB but I really don't want have to buy a drive when I've boxes and boxes of floppies.

Save on floppy and e-mail from a friend's PC looks simplest and will cost no-one a penny..
