computer problems need help asap

my computer just is so slow at shutting down. i have cleaned it up and defraged it and it still is the same, some times it won't even shut down but says it is. anyone know what i can do to fix this problem as it is driving me crazy

i'm not sure what you mean. how would i find out?

When you start up your PC does is say Windows 98 or Windows XP home etc... etc...

I had a similar problem and tried everything but it still took ages to shut down eventually (in desperation ) I re-installed the operating system ( XP home edition). It now runs like a dream again and shuts dowwn almost instantly ! If you decide to do this just make sure you back up all your data

With the greatest respect, funkypunky04, if you didn't know what I meant, I think your best bet (which would probably save you a lot of time and frustration) might be to call in someone who knows all about computers and ask them to look at your computer - and especially if homer75's answer has you worried that you don't know how to do what he recommends.
