Hard drive magnets

My husband has asked me to ask you wise people here, if anyone knows if the material that hard drive magnets are made of, are hazzardous or carcinogenic. He has opened a couple of old, broken hard drives and taken the magnets out, which I've been attaching to a couple of weak magnets that kept sliding down my fridge.

He asks because someone told him that they were dangerous, but he'd never heard this.

They are Neodymium, normally nickel plated too. They are dangerous when your finger is trapped but absolutely fine for a fridge. The large ones can come together so quickly that they shatter, so not suitable for little children.
