sharing internet connection

ive got a sony vaio wireless laptop that connects to aol via a belkin wireless asdl modem/router.

i want to connect my old desktop to the router so the missus and myself can both share my aol at the same time. her desktop is not wireless.

how can i connect her desktop to my router/aol? whats the best way?

i thought i would be able to simply run the ethernet cable belkin supplied for when i first installed my router from the desktop to the router and connect that way but its not doing anything. do i need to change the internet connection settings or something? is there anyway i can use a wire to connect the desktop to my router?

i know you can buy wireless adaptor cards for the desktop but i know little about comps and dont know how to install them?

belkin sell a wireless reciever that you plug into a usb port but ive read bad reviews saying they give poor and unreliable connections?

im not interested in connecting the 2 comps to interact with each other, only to share my aol account and to be able to use the comps at the same time on the aol (different screen names)

you can simply plug a USB wireless adaptor into your desktop or if you use a CAT 5 cable that should be enough.

Once you connect the cat-5 cable if you go into network connections your LAN connection (on your PC) should show as being connected, if not the cat-5 cable may be damaged.

P.S. If the router and the PC are in different rooms you can use something called HomePlug which uses your houses electrical wiring to create a network.
