I have a wireless connection with telewest is there a way i can boost the signal so i can use my laptop over the road in my friend house.

It all depends how far away the house is. If my neighbours are anything to go by then just give it a try. I can see at least two other wireless connections from my garage (at end of garden) but can't see them from inside the house, I suspect that's because of all that foil backed building material they use these days in the name of insulation.

Some access points can also be used as repeaters, you can get these cheaply on eBay.

Or you buy a high gain antenna - about �15 from a decent PC/electronics outlet.
