the grub bootloader image can only have 15 colours. why is this?

To display more that 16 colours the PC needs to load various drivers and also a monitor which is capable of displaying this many colours. Therefore to display a picture the loader would need to load additonal information which is just unnecessary and totally outside of the job of a bootloader.

Therefore it just allows you to display an image which it knows will display on any and every display available.
