I cannot find options on google.co.uk nor on my firefox google bar
Try this......on the address bar at the top where it says Google is a tiny triangle.....click that for a little menu.....first select Clear Search History to shift what you have, then click Options...click the SEARCH tab and uncheck whatever you don't like, for example Drop Down Search History...and don't forget to click on APPLY at the bottom....commoner.

Sorry about this but clicking on the tiny triangle in the firefox googlebar at the TRHC of the screen just gives me a series of search engines to choose from on a drop down menu
...sorry about that it was for IE...heres one for Firefox.......

Click Tools / Options..then the Privacy tab....then the Download History Tab and then Settings down at the bottom....then check Clear private data when closing Firefox ...then OK and at least the menu will empty each session....commoner.
