Does anyone know where I can get a tower which has Windows XP on. I am using Windows ME and it's a pain in the butt as it keeps crashing! I want something for 250 that I can use to get on the net. Will I also need to install and run a service pack as well?

Many thanks.

It should be fairly easy to buy just a tower with XP on it.

All recent copies of XP have the latest service pack (2) included so you should not need to install that.

You may need to download a few fixes, but not too many.

Try the Dell web site to just buy a tower.

I'm not sure how good this is, but dabs.com is reputable. It's got XP and performance should be OK http://www.dabs.com/ProductView.aspx?Quicklinx=3SZ3 .

why not just upgrade windows? approx 70...but there must an underlying problem making your ststem crash, sorting that should be cheaper.....

if your pc has a decent speed, big memory & hard drive etc then why not install xp ? ME was/is a poor system compaired to XP mine was allways crashing, stuck on xp -bingo job done. make sure your modem will work on xp before upgading to xp. all the other drivers you may need can be found on 'drivers.com'

Why spend 70 putting XP on a machine that is running ME when for a couple of hundred pounds you can have a faster processor, more memory, bigger disk, better sound and graphics AND XP.

You may also hit problems putting XP on a machine that is currently running ME. Why have the hassle.

Buying a boxed version of XP is a waste of money. The people who build PCs get it at a better price so if you buy it pre-installed you can spend the extra on the hardware.

Thanks for that. I havn't got enough memory to install XP on my old tower. Do Dabs do AMD Atholon XP 1500?

What I might do is get a new tower and strip everything from my old and place into the new tower. It's very confusing all this jargon.
