iPod switch off

I may be worrying over nothing but when I want to stop my iPod I press the "pause"once and it stops.I then press the "pause"again to switch it off but the songs details still remain on the screen .Is this right or am I doing something wrong ?

You need to keep the pause button held down until the screen goes blank.
