MS Works Spreadsheet.

When I want to get a spreadsheet up I get a warning saying that I have more than 500 fonts and should reduce them or display may be incorrect.

I click OK and everything seems to work fine.

How can I get rid of this warning?

I do seem to have quite a lot of fonts on my Win 98 computer ( about 7 years old now ) and I hardly have any use for 99.9% of them.

Go to the control panel, run the Fonts applet, and delete any that you don't need. This will improve the performance of your computer as well as getting rid of this annoying message.

If you go to http://www.bitstorm.org/fontlist/ you can download a small free program called Fontlist. It will generate a html page with the same phrase repeated in every font you have on your computer. This may help you decide which ones to delete as rojash has described.

Thanks Rojash and Ralph. I counted 19 rows of ten fonts per row. It's going to take me all day to delete 99.9%. I'll have to check each one before I delete it.

That means that I'll have to do 20 a day for the rest of my life.

Maybe do a Google search for the problem? It's a long time since I saw that message - I assume you are using an older OS - 98? Haven't seen it on XP so maybe that's the easier option to upgrade?

Yes I thought about upgrading to XP Wideboy, but I really don't want to go through all the hassle I had with this Windows 98 setup when I bought it brand new in 1999 (it was a package deal from Tiny Computers, complete with desk, printer and scanner - and loads of software I never used).

I recently bought an Eisystem laptop for Word Processing use only (I'm writing a semi-autobiographical novel with it) and I considered replacing the Tiny with it. But I haven't a clue how to go about it, without losing all my "stuff" of the last seven years.

I signed up for the full broadband package with NTL and so far (touches forehead), touch wood, I haven't had any real problems.

I do seem to have far too many fonts in the system though and I'm going to reduce them drastically in the next few days.

Just got round to reading this month's Computer Buyer. In it there ia a program called OPCION FONT from:-

Don't know if it will make it easier to delete a lot of fonts.

Thanks again wideboy. I'm deleting each one, after checking what it looks like - if I like it I keep it.

Threre are quite a lot and some of them can't be deleted.
