How many satellites are there in orbit around the Earth? Why do they not crash into each other. Do shuttle launches take into account the position of the satellites to avoid collisions?

No idea how many, but they're wll spread out and fewer in number than, say, the number of aircraft in flight at any one time. They also have to be placed in a carefully managed orbit so there's no overcrowding.
That's the best. Cheers mibn2cweus
