today it took me 20 attempts and a reboot to get online- why does this happen? (about once a week) it seems inexplicable as an hour or so earlier it was working fine

i am using b/band and have not installed any new h/ware s/ware

Try right clicking on internet explorer, properties and delete temp internet files and check the box for delete offline content. Then delete cookies and see if that helps.
