loads of websites use java and it is written by Sun Microsystems. If you wants to view websites that use java you have no choice but to download it. I think it is as safe as any other bit of website software. Download it here: http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp
JavaScript is built in to browsers so chances are you have it installed already. Internet Explorer actually use 'JScript' while Firefox etc use JavaScript. There's a lot of common ground in them, but also a lot of differences.

To use JavaScript, here's a little tutorial :

Just so we are clear, Javascript has nothing whatsoever to do with Java or Sun.

We need to know which your talking about to advise correctly. As j2buttonsw says you can download Java at the sun website and as OBonio says Javascript comes loaded into a browser.

The original design brief for Javascript specified that it shouldn't have any access to the computer therefore it's safe to use.

Many thanks to J2buttonsw,,Obonio,,and Wo Wo,

for your answer, I feel much better about it now,

But like Wo Wo said I must have it with internet explorer,

the reason I asked about it was because I wanted to do a BBC Tour, and i got a window come up with nothing on it, but at the bottom it said Java, so i assumed I did not have it.

Anyway Thanks again, Jondel
