Can you use a laptop from the USA here in the UK without any problems?

Yes you can, as long as the power transformer supports UK voltage and you have a UK adapter to enable it to fit in our sockets.


You may need to alter the language settings in Windows, but as far as I can tell the only other difference is the keyboard layout (e.g. the " and @ symbols are reversed).

You will not need to change the keyboard layout.


If you have US keyboard layout it will still be US keyboard layout wherever you plug it in. The keys on your laptop keyboard don't move according to location.

Sorry, I didn't mean to change the keyboard settings, I was just pointing out that there is a difference between US and UK keyboards. There are other language/location settings within Windows such as the units used etc. that can be changed. And your location setting definitely should be changed if you plan to use a modem, as if it's left on US settings the computer will always try to prefix the number with 01144 if you don't.
