Recording space on CD-R

I'm confused! Have a CD-R which says on it 800MIN/700MB. I have recorded files on it which total 66.2MB. The files were recorded onto the disc in three separate sessions. The disc now says it is full, and when I look at "Properties" it says the disc capacity is 40.3MB and is full. Is the disc faulty or am I faulty and doing something wrong? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

When you burn a disc, you can choose to either close the session or close the disc. If you close the session only, the disc remains "multisession" and you will still be able to append files to it. If, however, you choose close the disc, this will stop you from burning any more files onto it, and Windows will report it as being full. I suspect that maybe that's what has happened here.

Just check the settings within the burning software you're using to see if that's the case, and choose not to close the disc if that's an option.

Just to add to that, once a CD-R is closed, that's it... you can't undo it. So the setting you'd be changing would only apply to future discs you might burn.

Thanks Mouse. Understand what you're saying, but the burning programme is Kodak Easyshare, which has always worked OK in the past. Maybe it's just one of those wierd things that computers do?

Maybe... perhaps it operates on a "three strikes and you're out" policy? Might still be worth hunting through its settings though, make sure something hasn't tripped that shouldn't have.
