Had exactly the same problem using my laptop video out on tv, as soon as I shut the laptop (turned the no. 1 monitor off) the film showed on the tv. hope it helps

The problem is one of screen resolution. Your PC monitor uses many more pixels than your TV will, so you will only be able to view part of the full picture on your TV and my guess is you're viewing a portion of the screen without icons on it. If you drop your PC's screen resolution down to that of the TV (the TV's manual should tell you what it is) then you should be able to see the whole picture.

Also, if you're using Windows XP and Media Player 10, you may find that when you start playing a movie, it will appear full-screen on the TV without modifying the resolution. Depends upon your GFX card though I think.

Tv's PC display is XGA which supports 1024x768 @ 60Hz - which is what the pc's settings were already on.

Tried turning off the main monitor but with no effect.

Also tried moving an icon to the centre of the pc screen but it doesnt show up on the tv !

Thanks for the offers so far but still stuck !

Then is the PC treating the TV as an extension of your desktop? Try moving the mouse pointer outside of the left, right or top (usually to the right) of your PC's screen, and see if it appears on the TV. You may be using desktop extension mode instead of desktop clone mode.

Yeh - it was that easy ! The tv is being treated as an extension to the right !

Thanks.
