Synthesizer

My son is wanting to buy a synthesizer that can hook up to his pc so he can save whatever he does on it direct to his pc. Is this possible and if so what sort of synthesizer would he need?

is this an analogic output ? in that case just plug the output into the line inpute on your sound card and record it with any recording program. if this is a digital issue (midi-usb ecc) I am afraid I am at a loss
