Laserjet 1010 lost its zip?

Greetings:

I have an HP LaserJet 1010 which until recently worked perfectly well. It starts quickly, is quiet and used to smoothly churn out page after page without a problem.

Now however it seems to pose its own work to rule -- The first page comes out fine but then (I have timed this) it takes between 12 and 15 seconds before the next and subsequent pages begin to print. Just occasionally to make things even more peculiar it works normally for a session or so and then back it goes to its slow mode.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers but that appears to make no difference at all.

I wonder if anyone has any suggestions -- Best wishes -- tonetheteach.
