whats wrong with my dvd+r rw drive?

hi all hope you can help.

my philips dvd+r rw drive is not recognizing dvds or recordable disc yet it opens the what you wanna do page when i put one in?

it reads a dvd films well the sound only.

and if i place a blank dvdrw or cdr rw etc it states the disc is incorrect or might be full?

i have burnt dvds and cdrs on this drive before as also have watched many films before.

coinsidently both drives dvd rom and dvd r rw will not play anthing other than sound, and as i read it in my computer it is writen dvd-rw yet it is and always was a dvd+rw and the blank discs im using are all +.

the drive in question is a philips pbdv1640p it has the de-coders to veiw dvds etc
