You can usually click the button to buy the entire album.

Yes, it's a good site in terms of the stuff being very cheap and DRM-free. Buy in FLAC format if you can.

However, I wonder how much of that money actually goes to the artists that wrote and performed on the CDs? Not very much I bet. And isn't the idea of buying CDs to give money to the artists so they can write and perform some more?

When you buy the entire album don't you still have to download the tracks one at a time?

Surely the artists prefer their music to be as widely distributed as possible according to interest rather than ability to pay.

The more widely they can spread their music the more money they will make from touring and merchandising.
Yes, I think you do have to download the tracks individually.

I'm really not sure how much of the money they do get comes from record sales or from promo stuff and gigs. But here's some interesting reading:
