Go to the MS-DOS prompy, type PING and the name of the website, eg for answerbank

The IP address is in square brackets

In answer to xyzzyplugh's question. Suppose you work at a company that restricts what sites you look at. So if you try to access - for instance - www.playboy.com - it doesn't allow it, well, find out the ip address and use that instead. :)
