Hi , i transfered several hundred songs from windows media player to itunes thinking that having all my music in 1 place + deleting about 300 duplicate songs would give me more space on my harddrive . i actually have over 1GB less. any ideas pls ? 'cos i'm running seriously out of space

Have you checked your recycle bin ?
Have you deleted all the old stuff? Sounds like the new files have just been created, and the old ones haven't been deleted.

yep, emptied recycle bin & deleted everything from media player. i know many of the tracks were converted from WMA to MP3 format maybe that's the issue here ? makes sense but i don't know..........
Anything that was a .wma would be converted to either .mp3 or .aac. But that won't account for an increase in size as much as what you have. Were your songs all wma files?

Try searching for them: start->find files and folders. in the filename box, type in "*.wma" (without the quotes). See if it finds any of your songs.

i think they were all wma files , did a search as you said fo3nix & found 1 music file

i have no idea how this happened as i emptied the recycle bin last night, just put a few more tracks in there . old 'Goon show' sketches actually . went to check what size they were & found God knows how many music files in there ( honestly they weren't there last night!) i'm trying not to think about it as my head hurts . anyway problem solved , thanks all for your time
Glad it worked out in the end :)
