Why on earth have they called it wii. Nintedo now they've gona have big competition with sonyµsoft. So why the crappy name.
the only thing yhat it HAD going for it was the new controller but no-ones gona want something with that name in there house.

The point you're missing is that they DON'T have big competition with Sony and Microsoft.
Yes, they're both in the home console market, but if you've listened to anything Nintendo have said over the past year, you'll know they're not competing with Sony and Microsoft.
The name "Wii" is an extenstion of that philosophy. The name Revolution isn't going to separate it in peoples' minds from XBox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Imagine if they'd called it Gamecube 2? Maybe a couple of websites would have run stories about it, maybe it would have ended up in a newspaper or two. But naming it "Wii" is going to get it talked about. Admitedly, several other names would have had a similar effect, but once you hear the name "Wii", you'll remember it.
If someone is shallow enough to be put off a console by the name "Wii", I'm guessing they're also the sort of people who would say "OMG XBOX 360 HAS TEH BESTEST GRAFFIX SO IT IS THE BEST CONSOLE."
The name of the console has no bearing on the quality of games that will be produced, and given Nintendo's track record in making games, they WILL be high quality.
And for me, the discussion ends there.

I'm a huge Nintendo fan, always have been. I started out by picking a NES over a Mega Drive would you believe, and I've never looked back.
Along the way and through the years, I've learned Nintendo doesnt do anything lightly, and they ALWAYS come through with the best games.
However, when I heard the name Wii, I genuinely though they had lost the plot. To go from "Revolution", which the console will be, to "Wii", I just didn't get it. I though it was ridiculous.
Now I've had a day or 2 to think on it, I really like the name. I've quickly got past all the, excuse the pun, **** taking, and now I find myself , if it's at all possible, even MORE interested in the console.
If I couldn't wait for E3, I'm positively comping at the bit now.
Trust in Nintendo, they will deliver.

...but why would you be a 'huge Nintendo fan' ?
Surely its the games that matter and despite what people say they lack imagination in their games releases.Ive lost count of the number of times they have released another Mario game or another Kong game etc etc etc?
Nintendo are relying on their 'revolutionary' controller to sell their new consoles but seeing as Sony and Microsoft have both also patented similar designs they wont be alone for long.
As for the name,'Wii' its all very cutesy and goes with many of their titles aimed at younger players.In my eyes Nintendo simply have not evolved and have stagnated by still aiming their games at the younger gamer.The average gaming age is now in the 20's which is why Sony and MS own this market now.
I wonder how much in financial terms Nintendo's 'falling out' with Sony in the early 90's has cost them ? Bye bye PSX hello Playstation...and the rest is history !
